Pygmalion

July 19*, 21*, 21**, 27 August 4, 5, & 10

Described by George Bernard Shaw as "A Romance in Five Acts," Pygmalion is a bright and funny battle of wills between the Professor of Phonetics, Henry Higgins, and the street-vending flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, he is determined to turn into a lady. While they work on elevating Eliza's speech and manners, their relationship leads to investigations of class, gentility, dignity and humanity, women's independence, friendship and romance, and simple bullheadedness. The play upon which the musical My Fair Lady is based, Pygmalion, is a standard of the classical comedy.
